History & historic character
Wood-Ridge was incorporated as a borough on December 6, 1894, from portions of Bergen Township. Its growth was shaped by rail service, suburbanization and later aviation-related industry.
The former Curtiss-Wright aircraft-engine property became the borough's defining redevelopment site. Its reuse brought housing, public improvements and the new Wesmont rail station.
111 First Street is now headquarters of the Wood-Ridge Historical Society. Public meetings are normally held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m.
Historical SocietyThe restored sandstone Brinkerhoff House, dating to around 1784, is an important surviving piece of Wood-Ridge history and is associated with the Wood-Ridge Memorial Library.
